Timing
How Early Should I Arrive at PortMiami?
Arrive at the check-in or arrival time your cruise line assigns during online check-in — typically between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM — and never later than 90 minutes before sailing. Earlier usually means waiting outside.
The short answer
Arrive at the check-in or arrival time your cruise line gave you during online check-in. Most lines open check-in around 11:00 AM–12:00 PM and close it 60–90 minutes before sailing. Arriving hours early usually means waiting outside the terminal.
What each line calls it
| Cruise line | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Royal Caribbean | Arrival time chosen in the app; SetSail Pass |
| Carnival | Arrival appointment in the Carnival HUB app |
| Norwegian | Check-in time on your e-documents |
| MSC | Arrival time in MSC for Me |
| Virgin Voyages | Arrival time picked in the Virgin app |
| Disney | Port Arrival Time |
Plan around the port's peak
Dodge Island traffic peaks roughly 10:00 AM–1:00 PM on turnaround days, especially Friday to Monday when several big ships are in. Add buffer for the drive: 15–30 minutes from MIA, 40–60 from FLL, 8–40 from Miami hotels.
Pickup times that work
| Your terminal check-in time | Recommended pickup from Miami hotels / MIA |
|---|---|
| 11:00 AM | 10:10 AM |
| 12:00 PM | 11:10 AM |
| 1:00 PM | 12:10 PM |
| 2:00 PM | 1:10 PM |
Most cruise lines give each guest a check-in (arrival) time during online check-in, and ask everyone to be aboard 60–90 minutes before sailing. These pickup times allow for a cruise-morning drive plus a 20-minute buffer for luggage drop and terminal queues.
Why arriving very early backfires
Terminals manage crowds by appointment. Show up three hours early and you may wait outside, with luggage, in the Miami sun. Arriving at your time is faster overall.
