How long does MIA to PortMiami take?

ConditionsTypical drive
Early morning or evening, light traffic15–20 min
Weekday rush hour (7–9:30 AM, 4–7 PM)20–30 min
Cruise morning, 10 AM – 1 PM, several ships in port25–35 min, plus the queue onto Dodge Island
Downtown event or Port Boulevard bridge congestionAdd 10–15 min

The usual route is SR-836 east (Dolphin Expressway) to I-395 or Biscayne Boulevard, then over the Port Boulevard bridge onto Dodge Island. Once on the island, the last few minutes depend on your terminal letter, so your chauffeur takes the correct lane for your terminal.

Where do I meet my driver at MIA?

MIA is one horseshoe-shaped terminal building with three areas: the North Terminal (Concourse D), the Central Terminal (Concourses E, F and G) and the South Terminal (Concourses H and J). Baggage claim is on the arrivals level directly below each concourse.

  1. Before you fly: you receive your chauffeur's name, mobile number and vehicle by text or email.
  2. When you land: turn your phone on — your chauffeur already knows your actual landing time from flight tracking and will text you.
  3. Meet & Greet ($40, sedan and SUV): your chauffeur waits at the baggage carousel for your flight with a name sign and helps with bags.
  4. Standard pickup: collect your bags, then reply to your chauffeur with the number of the exit door you are standing at. The vehicle comes to the arrivals-level curb outside that door.
  5. Groups in Sprinters, minibuses and coaches: large vehicles use the airport's designated commercial pickup area; your chauffeur meets you inside and walks the group out.

International arrivals: allow 45–90 minutes for immigration and customs before baggage claim. We track the arrival, but we cannot see the immigration line — just text your chauffeur when you clear.

Which PortMiami terminal will I go to?

Your cruise line assigns the terminal, and it is printed on your boarding pass and shown in the cruise line's app. Assignments can change if a ship is moved, so check again a day or two before sailing. These are the typical 2026 assignments:

TerminalTypical cruise lines (2026)Notes
Terminal AAMSC CruisesMSC's terminal (AA/AAA), opened 2025
Terminal ARoyal Caribbean; Celebrity on some sailingsRoyal Caribbean's "Crown of Miami", opened 2018

Terminal JLuxury and small-ship lines (e.g. Oceania, Regent Seven Seas)Boutique terminal for smaller ships

Cruise lines move ships between terminals, and one ship can use different terminals on different dates. Your terminal is printed on your boarding pass and in your cruise line's app; give us the letter when you book and we drop you at that door.

What time should I leave MIA for my cruise?

The safest plan is to fly in the day before. If you are flying in on sailing day, aim to land by 11:00 AM for a 4:00–5:00 PM departure, and never book a flight scheduled to land after about 1:00 PM — one delayed connection is the most common reason passengers miss a ship. Once you have your bags, use this table:

Your terminal check-in timeRecommended pickup from MIA (leave by)
11:00 AM10:05 AM
12:00 PM11:05 AM
1:00 PM12:05 PM
2:00 PM1:05 PM

Most cruise lines give each guest a check-in (arrival) time during online check-in, and ask everyone to be aboard 60–90 minutes before sailing. These pickup times allow for a cruise-morning drive plus a 20-minute buffer for luggage drop and terminal queues.

Can I book for 6, 10, 15 or 20 people?

Yes — and usually in one vehicle, so the whole group arrives together. The per-person cost drops sharply as the vehicle fills:

How much luggage fits?

Cruise travelers pack more than airport travelers: formal wear, beach gear and a week of clothes. A good rule is one large suitcase per adult plus one carry-on. Choose the vehicle by bags first:

Strollers, wheelchairs and scooters: tell us when you book so we size the vehicle for them. More detail in our luggage and vehicle size guide.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

We monitor every airport pickup in real time. If your flight is late, your pickup moves with it — there is no delay fee and no waiting-time charge for a late flight. If you land after 10:30 PM, the published late-night pickup fee applies (see optional extras above). If a delay threatens your sailing, dispatch calls you, and we will take you straight to the terminal the moment you have your bags.

MIA to PortMiami: private transfer vs Uber or Lyft

Rideshare works well at MIA for a couple with two suitcases on a quiet day. It works less well on cruise mornings, when hundreds of passengers request rides from the same pickup zone, prices rise with demand and not every car that accepts has room for cruise luggage. A larger rideshare (XL) fits six people with fewer bags than you might expect.

A private transfer costs a known amount booked in advance, the vehicle is sized for your bags, and the chauffeur tracks your flight. Neither option can skip the terminal queue — but only one has you standing at the curb hoping a car arrives.

MIA to PortMiami: private transfer vs taxi

Taxis wait at the MIA taxi rank outside baggage claim, and Miami-Dade County regulates the fares, including flat fares on some airport routes — check the rate posted at the rank. A taxi is a reasonable choice for one to three people with standard luggage. It is not a choice for six people and twelve suitcases, and you cannot pre-book a specific vehicle size or have the driver waiting for a delayed flight.

Shared shuttle vs private transfer

Shared shuttles and cruise-line transfer buses price per person and fill the vehicle before leaving, which can mean waiting at the airport and stopping at other terminals or hotels. For one traveler, shared can be cheaper. For three or more, a private vehicle is often the same price or less — and it leaves when you do.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private transfer from Miami Airport to PortMiami cost?

$166 for an executive sedan (up to 2 passengers), $245 for a Chevy Suburban (up to 4), $216 for a Private Large Van (up to 6), $276 for an XXL Van (up to 10), $409 for a 17-passenger Sprinter and $1,404 for a 56-seat motor coach. Each price is the total for the whole vehicle, one-way, with gratuity, airport and port fees, tolls and surcharges already included.

How long does it take to get from MIA to the cruise port?

About 15–20 minutes in light traffic and 25–30 minutes on a busy cruise morning. The drive is 8–9 miles via SR-836 (Dolphin Expressway) and I-395 or Biscayne Boulevard onto Port Boulevard.

Where do I meet my driver at Miami International Airport?

With Meet & Greet ($40, sedan and SUV) your chauffeur waits at baggage claim for your flight with a name sign. With standard pickup, your chauffeur texts you after you land and meets you at the arrivals-level curb outside your baggage-claim exit. You get the chauffeur's name, phone number and vehicle before pickup.

What happens if my flight to MIA is delayed?

Nothing changes and you pay nothing extra. We track the flight and move the pickup to your actual landing time. If the delay puts your sailing at risk, dispatch calls you to plan the fastest option.

Can you take 10, 15 or 20 people from MIA to PortMiami?

Yes, in one vehicle. An XXL Van carries 10 people ($276), a 17-passenger Sprinter carries up to 17 ($409), a 19-passenger Sprinter carries 19 ($562) and a Deluxe Minibus carries 28 ($653).

Is it cheaper to take Uber from MIA to PortMiami?

For one or two people with light luggage, a standard rideshare is usually cheaper when demand is normal. For families, groups, lots of luggage or a busy cruise morning, a fixed private price is often comparable and removes the surge, the wait and the luggage gamble.

Which PortMiami terminal will I be dropped at?

Whichever terminal your cruise line assigns. It is printed on your boarding pass and in your cruise app — tell us the letter (AA, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J or V) when you book and we drop you at that door.

Is the price the same from PortMiami back to MIA?

Yes. The flat price is the same in both directions. See the PortMiami to Miami Airport page for debarkation-day details.
