PortMiami Transportation Options, Compared

There are six ways to reach PortMiami. None is best for everyone: it depends on party size, luggage and how much certainty you want on sailing day. Here they are side by side, neutrally.

Who each option suits

Private transfer

A vehicle and chauffeur reserved for your party, price fixed in advance. Suits families, groups, anyone with full cruise luggage or a tight timeline. From MIA: $166 for a sedan, $245 for a Suburban.

Shared shuttle

You pay per seat and share the van with other travelers, with stops at other terminals or hotels. Suits solo travelers on a budget with time to spare.

Taxi

Available at the MIA rank and by phone; Miami-Dade regulates fares, including flat fares on some airport routes. Suits one to three people with standard bags, on demand.

Rideshare

Convenient and often cheapest for couples off-peak. Prices rise with demand on cruise mornings, and vehicle size depends on who accepts. At the port, rideshare uses designated pickup zones.

Cruise-line shuttle

Sold by the cruise line per person. The bus waits to fill and follows the line's schedule; on debarkation day it may leave you at the airport hours before your flight. Simple for solo travelers who want everything in one booking.

Drive and park

Makes sense for local residents. Daily parking at the port garages adds up over a week-long cruise; see the parking guide.

Three real scenarios

  • Couple, two suitcases, landing at MIA on a quiet weekday: rideshare or taxi is usually cheapest. A private sedan ($166) buys certainty.
  • Family of five, five suitcases, cruise morning: a Private Large Van ($216 from MIA) carries everyone and the bags; a rideshare XL may not fit the luggage.
  • Group of 12: one Sprinter ($298 from MIA, $24.83 each) versus twelve shuttle seats or three rideshares.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to get to PortMiami?

For one or two people with light luggage, usually a rideshare or taxi off-peak. For three or more with cruise luggage, a private vehicle is often comparable per person.

Is there a public bus or train to the cruise terminals?

There is no rail line onto Dodge Island. Public transit to the terminals is not practical with cruise luggage.

Can Uber drop off at the cruise terminal?

Yes, at the terminal's passenger drop-off. For pickups after the cruise, rideshare uses designated zones.
